Celtics Guard Comments on Recent ACL Tear
The Celtics' guard rotation has drastically changed this offseason. They traded away both Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon and brought in former champion point guard Jrue Holiday. They also signed a $30 million contract extension with current guard Payton Pritchard. Less notably, they also signed Jay Scrubb to a two-way contract, allowing him to play minutes for the Celtics and their G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
Unfortunately, Scrubb's playtime looks to be far off. Days before the preseason tipped off, Jay tore his ACL in a Celtics practice. Days following his injury announcement, Scrubb has finally made public comments on his situation, promising to "be back," with emojis representing the Celtics.I will be back i promise you 🍀💚— 0. There have been no official statements regarding when Scrubb will return from injury; however, the average recovery time for an ACL tear usually lasts between 8 and 9 months.
Scrubb Signing For the Celtics
Since being drafted in the late 2nd round of the 2020 NBA Draft, Scrubb has only played 24 NBA games with a single start, split between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Orlando Magic. The rest of his career has been spent with the G-League affiliates of these teams. Things are looking up for Scrubb, however, after the Celtics signed him following an impressive display for them at the Summer League this year.
In 5 games for the Celtics' Summer League roster, Scrubb averaged 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, while also shooting over 40% from three-point range. His impressive performances were not all that stood out; the Celtics' coaching staff was allegedly impressed with Scrubb's energy and hustle off the bench.
