Wizards Sign Forward to Four-Year Extension
Deni Avdija has inked a contract extension with the Washington Wizards, solidifying his commitment to the team. The 22-year-old player has agreed to a fully guaranteed four-year contract worth $55 million, as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Deni Advija's Career
Deni was chosen as the 9th overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2020 NBA Draft. Since then, he has faced challenges in securing starts on the Wizards' roster. During the last season, he achieved career-high averages of 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, but his shooting efficiency, particularly from beyond the arc, remained lackluster at 29.7%. However, it's important to note that he displayed remarkable potential during his last season in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, where he averaged 13.5 points per game with a 55.0% field goal percentage and a 38.7% three-point shooting percentage.
What this means for the Wizards
Entering his 23rd year, Avdija pairs up with rookie Bilal Coulibaly as the only wings on the Washington roster, providing an opportunity for Deni to secure a steady starting role. With stars Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis no longer on the Wizards, Avdija is anticipated to take on a more substantial role for the young Wizards team this season.
