Unexpected Changes in Washington
On Thursday, the Washington Wizards announced that Wes Unseld Jr., the current head coach, will transition to a front office advisory position. Unseld Jr., who assumed the head coaching role on July 17, 2021, leaves with a record of 77-130.
Expressing gratitude, Unseld Jr. stated,"I look forward to this new opportunity for our organization's continued progress."
The team will name an interim head coach later on Thursday and commence a thorough search for Unseld Jr.'s replacement in the upcoming offseason.
Acknowledging the need for change, Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger mentioned, "Wes embodies the characteristics we value, and his vast basketball experience will be an asset to the front office as we progress toward our long-term goals."
With a current season record of 7-36, the Wizards are ahead of only the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference standings.
