Jeremy Sochan of the Spurs may sit out the remainder of the season
San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan's hopes of completing the season without interruption might be dashed by a left ankle impingement. Sochan sustained the injury during the first half of Friday's win against the New York Knicks. Although he sat out the second half, he's already been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Golden State Warriors.
After playing just 56 games due to injuries in his rookie season last year, Jeremy Sochan aimed to be exceptionally durable this year. The rugged Spurs forward, known for consistently guarding the opposing team's top offensive players, hadn't sat out a game until last week when he voiced his aspiration to compete in all 82 matches before representing Poland at the 2024 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament from July 2-7 in Valencia, Spain.
"I want to play in the Olympics," said Sochan, whose mother is Polish. "I feel like we have a really good chance. I have played in every game this season, knock on wood, and I want to finish it and then be ready for Valencia. I am excited."

Sochan's availability for the remainder of the season is in doubt after suffering a left ankle impingement during Friday night's game against the New York Knicks. This injury forced him to sit out the second half of the game, where the Spurs secured an overtime victory.
On Saturday, the Spurs announced that both Sochan and Keldon Johnson, who has a sprained left foot, will miss Sunday night's home game against the Golden State Warriors.
During Friday's game, Sochan contributed four points and one assist in 17 minutes of play before exiting due to left ankle soreness. Cedi Osman replaced him in the second half as the Spurs clinched their third consecutive win.
Ankle impingement is a condition characterized by painful ankle motion limitations caused by abnormalities in soft tissues or bones, as per NBA.com.
In a worst-case scenario, some players miss significant time due to injury, as seen with Cleveland point guard Ty Jerome, who underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery in January after missing most of the season.
With only seven games remaining in the season after Sunday's contest, the Spurs (18-56) are nearing the end of their campaign, which concludes on April 14th when they host Detroit at 2:30 p.m.
Sochan, who missed 14 of the last 18 games of his rookie season in 2022-23 due to knee soreness, faces uncertainty about his availability.
Before the break, the Spurs ranked 23rd in the league with a defensive rating of 117.5 over 55 games.
Sochan played a pivotal role in Wednesday night's victory over Utah, contributing 17 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high five steals. He also led the Spurs in deflections, loose ball recoveries, and contested 3-pointers, according to NBA tracking data.
