Sixers Targeting Familiar Face to Replace Embiid While Injured
The somber tone around the 76ers locker room is completely understood. They have lost 6 out of the last 7 games, dropped to 5th in the conference and their MVP Joel Embiid will miss significant time needing left knee surgery. While there is no current timetable for Embiid's return, some are hopeful it is 1-2 months, they will not know definitively until after the procedure is done.
In the meantime, they need to find a big man. They have Paul Reed who has not proven himself yet as every night center. That leaves the Sixers on the hunt, like in so many years past, to find another center to play while Embiid is off the court. A familiar face may be able to come in and fill that role.
Andre Drummond is currently the Bull Back Up center. The Bulls should be looking to sell at the deadline, as they are not serious Title contenders and Zach Lavine will be out the rest of the year. Drummond has plenty of familiarity with the Sixers being Embiid's backup center during the 21-22 season before being traded to Brooklyn. The cost would be relatively low, and the return, even if Drummond can just be steady until Embiid gets back to his dominance would be huge. Only time will tell, but the Thursday trade deadline is fast approaching, and time is ticking for the Sixers this year.
