Horrible News for MVP Candidate
The injury bug is hitting Joel Embiid hard. The most recent blow is it was recently reported that he has a torn meniscus in his knee. He will definitely be out the rest of the weekend and it is uncertain how they will go about treatment at this time. This is something that will be discussed internally with the Sixers and Embiid over the next several days.
Embiid has missed games this season with a sore left knee, he missed 3 games last month, then sat out against the Nuggets and Trail Blazers before forcing himself to play against the Warriors, where the injury got worse. On a play where he was being double teamed, the ball got poked away from him, in the ensuing scrum Warriors big man Jonathan Kuminga fell and landed on the knee causing the tear.Embiid has been a monster when healthy this year averaging 35.5 points per game, 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists. He was on pace to score more points than minutes played, a feat only accomplished by the great Wilt Chamberlain.
The injury will more than likely take Embiid out of the MVP race, as he can only miss 4 more games after Thursday. He also was vote to the All-Star Game which he will now have to miss. Here's to a speedy recovery to one of the best players in the NBA!
