Austin Rivers Calls Out Sixers for Firing His Father
Austin Rivers Calls Out 76ers and Daryl Morey on ESPN's "First Take"
In a recent appearance on ESPN's "First Take," free-agent guard Austin Rivers didn't hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction with the Philadelphia 76ers and their president, Daryl Morey. The focal point of Rivers' frustration stems from the 76ers' decision to part ways with his father, Doc Rivers, following the 2023 playoffs.Sixers' Downfall and Rivers' Take
During the discussion, Rivers initially praised Sixers' center Joel Embiid and delved into the MVP race. However, he quickly shifted gears, asserting,
"I see (Philadelphia) as a third option in the Eastern Conference, a couple behind Milwaukee and the Celtics. I'm not gonna say anything positive about Philly, man. They did my pops dirty, bro. I got nothing to say about them."
Encouraged by his fellow analysts, Rivers continued his candid remarks.
"It is personal. Family over everything, bro. Family first, man. Come on Daryl (Morey). I'm talking to you,"
he declared, pointing directly at the camera.
Personal Connection: Houston Rockets Days
Rivers' connection with Morey goes beyond the 76ers saga. Both were part of the Houston Rockets organization, where Morey served as the general manager for 13 seasons from 2007-2020, and Rivers played for two seasons from 2018-2020.
Doc Rivers' Exit and Current Endeavors
The 76ers terminated Doc Rivers in May, shortly after the team's elimination in the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Boston Celtics. Despite holding a 3-2 series lead, Philadelphia couldn't secure victory, ultimately leading to Doc Rivers' departure.
Doc Rivers has now transitioned to a broadcasting role for ESPN, joining the esteemed team of Doris Burke and Mike Breen.
