With the Los Angeles Lakers being the most successful and globally famous franchise in the NBA, many stars have had their best career moments playing in the purple and gold. However, this week, one star achieved the opposite by breaking a franchise record with his new team.

The player in question is Julius Randle, originally drafted by the Lakers with the 7th overall pick in 2014. During his four seasons as a Laker, he did not progress into even half of the star he is today, leading to the Lakers renouncing his rights before he signed with New Orleans.

Despite his on-court struggles, he was noted for his hard work and was even mentored by Kobe Bryant during the final two seasons of Bryant's career. Randle credited Kobe's influence as one of the reasons he was able to win the Most Improved Player award in 2021.

New Franchise record

Now, Randle is most known for playing on the New York Knicks, where he earned his only two All-Star and All-NBA selections and has become a true team leader in this ever-improving roster. Playing in his fifth season, Randle's longest-tenured team is now the Knicks, and to repay the organization's faith, he has continued to improve. He has now broken an all-time franchise record for a team that once housed stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, and Willis Reed.

This record-breaking moment occurred during the Knicks' tight victory over the Atlanta Hawks last night. The win was largely led by Randle, who scored 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists. Throughout this performance, he only turned the ball over once, thereby setting a record as the only player to achieve this feat for the Knicks.

This latest performance showcases Randle's yet another incredible season in New York, likely leading them to the playoffs once again.
