Timberwolves release former Lakers sensation and sharpshooter
After exiting the playoffs in the first round last season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made two late adjustments to their roster ahead of the upcoming NBA season.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan and signing Daishen Nix to a two-way NBA contract, per sources. Nix averaged 6 points and 3.3 assists in preseason. Ryan scored 18 points on 6 3‘s over final 2 games.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) October 20, 2023
The Timberwolves have waived forward Matt Ryan, who went undrafted in 2020 and spent time in the G-League before ultimately playing NBA games for both the Lakers and the Timberwolves last season. In his 12 games for the Lakers and 22 for the Timberwolves last season, he averaged 9.5 minutes and 3.4 points per game.
Signing 2-Way Player
To replace Ryan, the Timberwolves have signed Daishen Nix to a 2-way contract. Nix impressed the coaching staff during preseason where he averaged 6 points and 3.3 assists.
Being on a 2-way contract means that Nix will fluctuate between the Timberwolves and their G-League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. He may not see regular NBA minutes this season, but this is a great opportunity for the former undrafted player. He could also find his way into the rotation as an injury replacement if any other stars go down this season.
Last year, Nix played 57 games for the Houston Rockets and averaged around 16 minutes per game.
