Kobe Bryant Tribute Unveiled by Number 1 Ranked College Team

Kobe Bryant was the face of the NBA for several years and undoubtedly became a fan favorite for an entire generation. Now, almost four years since his untimely passing, tributes continue to pour in, with the most recent one coming from the number one ranked team in college basketball.

Despite being drafted straight from high school in 1996, Kobe Bryant was a staunch supporter of collegiate athletes. This was evident through his 'Mamba's Program,' created in partnership with Nike, which supports six colleges and provides player-exclusive Kobe shoes for all student-athletes.

Among these six colleges in the program is LSU, where Bryant's most famous teammate, Shaquille O'Neal, played. Now, this season, the LSU Tigers, ranked number one in Women's College Basketball, have utilized the Mamba program by unveiling signature colorways in honor of Kobe.

The recent tribute was featured on the official LSU Lady Tigers' Instagram account, where they posted pictures of the special edition Nike Kobe 8 shoe series. The first colorway carries a festive Christmas theme, evident in their post captioned, 'Have a very Kobe Christmas.

The second and third colorways features a mixture of white, purple, and gold. This is particularly noteworthy as these colors symbolize both the LSU team and the Los Angeles Lakers, where Bryant spent the entirety of his professional career.
