Draymond Green is known for being a fiery player; his passion on the court is what makes him so aggressive and efficient on the defensive end. However, his emotions do not always prove useful for Green, leading to numerous ejections and suspensions throughout his career.

One such incident occurred during the Warriors' game against the Cavaliers last night, where he was ejected following a heated head-to-head confrontation with Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell.

Green costing the Warriors

While the Warriors have been known as a small-ball team ever since Kerr took over the coaching position in 2014, this new roster is by far the smallest we've seen. The addition of Chris Paul this summer and no notable big men signings has made Green's role even more important to this team.

The former Defensive Player of the Year serves as the anchor to the entire Warriors' defense. He plays much bigger than his actual size and has proven to be one of the most versatile defenders in the league, capable of guarding players in all five positions.

Scoring will never be a concern for this team with the offensive depth they have throughout. However, defense is likely to be a struggle without Green. His propensity for getting ejected has cost the Warriors before, as many believe that their loss to the Cavaliers in the 2016 finals was only made possible by Green's suspension. Although it is speculation, one could argue that Green's ejection last night once again cost the Warriors, as they lost to the Cavaliers.

Cavaliers vs Warriors

The Cavaliers won this game 118 - 110 with a complete all-around performance from the Cleveland roster. They had 6 players scoring in double figures and were actually led in scoring by Caris LeVert, who scored 22 points coming off the bench.

One could argue that LeVert's bench scoring was made possible by Green's ejection, which forced the Warriors' backup forwards, Saric and Kuminga, to play more minutes with the starting rotation, resulting in less depth off the bench.

As for team statistics, both teams had very similar numbers in field goal percentage and three-point shooting. The main difference last night was at the free-throw line, where the Cavaliers had 13 more attempts than the Warriors. Again, this could be attributed to Draymond's ejection. Without their defensive leader and with less experienced players on the court, the fouls were bound to accumulate, and in the end, this was one of the decisive factors in the Warriors' defeat.
