BREAKING: A major decision has been made for Draymond Green
Grant Hill, the executive director of USA Basketball, stated that Draymond Green, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was excluded from the team roster for this summer's Paris Olympics due to his suspensions while playing with the Golden State Warriors this season.
"His contributions have been significant, and he is a real part of the legacy of this organization for his excellence," Hill said. "But I think just in lieu of sort of what's transpired this year, we made a decision to not have [Green] on this list with this particular point in time with the process."
It came as a surprise when Green was not included in the provisional 41-man roster for Team USA, announced on Tuesday. This was unexpected not only because of his valuable skills as a versatile defender in international play, but also due to the support he has traditionally received from Steve Kerr, the Warriors coach who also leads the national team.
Green faced a five-game suspension in November after an incident with Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert. In December, he was indefinitely suspended following a physical altercation with Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic.
Green was sidelined for 12 games before his reinstatement and missed an additional four games as he prepared to rejoin the Warriors.
