The Detroit Pistons have signed Taj Gibson to a deal for the remainder of the season.
As reported by ESPN, Taj Gibson, formerly with the Knicks, recently inked a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons. Now, it's confirmed that he will be staying in Detroit for the remainder of the season. The expectation is for him to finalize a full contract on Saturday.
The seasoned center has not yet made an appearance on the court for the Pistons. Nevertheless, Detroit has lauded Gibson's mentorship with their young frontcourt players. Even in his brief tenure with the team so far, Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart, and James Wiseman have already seen the advantages of learning from Gibson.
We can assume that Gibson will mostly be used as a veteran to help young players in the Pistons' core as they are currently in a rebuilding mode based on their poor performance this season. They have no choice but to make a change. One thing we can all notice is that most of the players are young, with the average age being 24.4, making them the third youngest team in the league. They will need some guidance from veterans, and Gibson will be there for exactly that role. More to come.
