Kyrie Irving's Epic Comeback Plan to Regain NBA Superstar Status

It is no secret that in his heyday, Kyrie Irving was an unbelievable talent among the global elite. This fact is supported by his impressive resume of accomplishments, which includes an NBA championship, FIBA World Cup MVP, and NBA All-Star Game MVP. However, most of his accolades are from over half a decade ago. More recently, Irving has been remembered for disappointing stints with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets.

While injuries and off-court controversies have impacted his performance, the fact remains that Kyrie's teams have fallen short of expectations for the past 5 consecutive years. Now 31 years old, he is setting his sights on the upcoming season where he will have the opportunity to play his first full year alongside international superstar Luka Doncic. The Dallas Mavericks acquired Irving in a trade toward the end of the previous season and despite initial struggles, they signed him to a 3-year, $126,000,000 contract extension.

The initial step toward regaining his status as a top 20 player would involve figuring out how to effectively play alongside another star guard like Doncic. Recent years have demonstrated that teams can achieve success with a dynamic backcourt tandem, as seen with examples such as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, and James Harden paired with Chris Paul. Both Irving and Doncic possess exceptional offensive abilities, providing them with the potential to become the premier backcourt pairing. However, achieving this hinges on their ability to nurture their chemistry and their willingness to share the ball more than they've been accustomed to.

The second thing Irving needs to do is play games. Whatever the reasons whether it being injury, refusal to get vaccinated or mental breaks Irving has missed just over 50% of his games during the past 4 seasons. when he was playing his talents spoke for themselves but the lack of showcasing has led to his perceived decline and if he were able to play the vast majority of his next season with the mavericks and he performs to his expected calibre then Irving will certainly be on the fast track to becoming an elite layer once again.

The next crucial step for Irving is to consistently participate in games. Regardless of the underlying reasons – whether due to injuries, refusal to get vaccinated, or mental breaks – Irving has been absent for slightly over 50% of his games over the past 4 seasons. While his skills were evident whenever he did play, the limited showcasing has contributed to his perceived decline. However, if Irving manages to actively participate in the majority of Mavericks' games during the upcoming season and delivers performances at the level expected of him, he will undoubtedly be on a rapid path to reclaiming his status as an elite player once more.

The final aspect that Irving can focus on to rejuvenate his talents is winning games. Of course, this is easier said than done, but it's the more successful teams that tend to be remembered, and they are the ones that consistently secure victories. Irving has already demonstrated his ability to win at the highest level, making it clear that he has the capability. The determining factor will be whether he can contribute to his current team's accumulation of wins.

The Mavericks have undertaken numerous offseason moves in pursuit of championship contention. These maneuvers include trading for forward Grant Williams, acquiring big man Richaun Holmes, and signing free agents Seth Curry and Dante Exum.

There is indeed a significant amount of pressure on Kyrie to excel in the upcoming season. However, when compared to his previous seasons in Brooklyn and Boston, the expectation for a championship in Dallas isn't necessarily as pronounced. With this context, the hope is that he can find a sense of calm, play his game, and demonstrate to everyone that he remains a top 20 player in the NBA.
