Chicago Bulls reportedly offering DeMar DeRozan nearly $40M/year

According to a source, the Chicago Bulls have recently presented DeMar DeRozan's representative with a two-year contract offer featuring a substantial annual salary, potentially reaching $40 million per season. While DeRozan initially seeks a longer-term agreement, this may simply be a negotiating tactic.

Over the past three years, the Bulls' trajectory has been somewhat erratic. Despite a significant roster overhaul in 2021, they've only managed to secure a playoff berth in one of those seasons, where they only won a single game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The subsequent two seasons saw them fall short of achieving a winning record.

Their recent campaign concluded similarly to the previous one, with a loss to the Miami Heat in the second Play-In Tournament game. Despite persistent calls from fans for substantial changes, it appears that the Bulls are content with maintaining their status as a middle-of-the-pack team, as indicated by a recent report.

DeRozan, slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, is eligible for a three-year contract extension or free agency signing. Given that he will turn 35 next season, any deal exceeding three years would conflict with the NBA's Over-38 rule.


While Bulls VP of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas acknowledges the need for roster adjustments, he has expressed a desire to retain DeRozan. Similarly, DeRozan has indicated his preference to continue with the Bulls, albeit with an emphasis on achieving success. In the previous season, DeRozan showcased his value by averaging 24 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, boasting shooting percentages of 48% from the field and 85% from the free-throw line.
