The Chicago Bulls are currently the biggest question mark in the NBA. Though on paper, they have a team clearly good enough to challenge in the playoffs, they've underachieved in recent seasons and are looking as bad as ever with a woeful start of 6-14 to begin this campaign. Amidst this high level of uncertainty about their future, an unlikely star has now spoken out about his motivation to turn this season around.

Unlikely Star

The player speaking out is former NBA champion Alex Caruso. Since joining the Lakers in 2017, Caruso has earned a cult following, mainly due to his high drive and work ethic. He took an unusual route to the NBA after going undrafted, and Caruso has scratched and clawed for everything he's earned in his NBA career thus far.

Despite signing a $37 million contract with the Bulls, Caruso continues to display his fighting attitude, as evident in his recent comments regarding his motivation and desire to turn this season around. Although he's been involved in several trade rumors lately, he appears focused on his current role in Chicago, which is now more crucial than ever with superstar guard Zach Lavine sidelined due to injury.

Caruso's Comments

While the team as a whole is struggling, Caruso is actually having one of his best seasons. He's averaging a career-high in points, blocks, and field goal percentage at a whopping 53.7%. With his elevated level of play, he shared comments on how, regardless of the team and situation, any player in the NBA has to step up and do their job.

"Night in and night out, that's your responsibility — whether you wear Bulls, Celtics, whatever it is across your chest. There's a pride that comes with playing in the NBA that you've got to show up and do your job every night."

He also shared his frustrations about the team's recent form but cited his willingness to step up as a leader, trying to uplift players by being extra vocal and giving maximum effort.

‘‘It's something that's frustrating and something we can only wash it, get back, and go with the next one. Try and continue to lead by example and lead vocally; pull guys along with me.''

‘‘As a team, there's two things that are mandatory in the NBA if you want to win games: effort and execution. If you miss half of that, you're probably behind the 8-ball and probably not going to put yourself in a good chance to win,»
