Celtics' Unconventional Move in NBA In-Season Tournament

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown voiced his disapproval over the team's decision to intentionally foul Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond, stating,
"It's tough because that's just not how the game is supposed to be played."

Drummond's Unconventional 'Hack-a-Drummond' Experience

During the blowout win over the Chicago Bulls, the Celtics intentionally sent Drummond, a 48% free-throw shooter, to the line twice in the fourth quarter. Brown emphasized,
"One, you gotta respect your opponents, and two, it's just a weird setup."

Boston's Point Differential Gamble Pays Off

Explaining the move, Brown highlighted,
"But our coaching staff made the decision, and we stick with it."
The intentional fouls aimed at maintaining the highest point differential secured the Celtics' top spot in East Group C for the In-Season Tournament, despite a tied record.

Apologies, Criticisms, and NBA's Rule Dilemma

Celtics' head coach Joe Mazzulla, apologizing to Drummond, explained,
"This is what our people are telling us, this is what we have to do, this is the process towards protecting our lead that gives us the best chance to win and advance."
Bulls' coach Billy Donovan, understanding the tactics, criticized the NBA's rules, saying,
"But this is from the league. This is what the league has done, making this point differential thing."

Part of the Game' Amidst Controversy

Drummond called the decision to send him to the line "part of the game" and declined to answer further questions. The Celtics are now set to face the Indiana Pacers in the In-Season Tournament quarterfinals on Dec. 4.
