Hornets Star Trolls Tatum After Celtics Defeat
In the modern world of social media, any online trash talk between NBA stars can resurface months or even years later. MVP candidate Jayson Tatum discovered this the hard way when old comments about the Hornets resurfaced following an overtime thriller between Charlotte and Boston.
In a thrilling league match, the Charlotte Hornets managed to upset the Celtics with a 121-118 win in overtime. The Celtics are among the title favorites this season, and despite holding a 9-point lead with only 2 minutes remaining, they fumbled the game, allowing an in-form Hornets team to seize the opportunity and secure the victory.
After the game, a Hornets star was caught on video taking a shot at Celtics star Tatum, who had made some comments about the Hornets. These remarks seemed to come back to haunt him after the Hornets' unexpected win.
Tatum's Trash Talk
Tatum, at just 25, has become one of the premier stars in the NBA, poised to be a face of the league for the better part of the next decade. With this level of stardom comes millions of adoring fans. This summer, Tatum decided to give back to his supporters by appearing at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.
It was during this appearance that his comments about the Hornets were recorded. In an effort to inspire the high schoolers, Tatum provided an example from a non-televised match against the Hornets. He highlighted how he still maintains a competitive edge, even in games with less spotlight compared to other marquee matchups.
"Just because we're playing Charlotte on NBA League Pass on a Monday and ain't nobody watching, I'm chilling tonight— That's not what the best players do... Compete, play basketball, don't take it for f*cking granted."

Hornets Star Claps Back
Though nothing was acknowledged at the time, it's evident that Tatum's comments bothered specific members of the Hornets roster. One player noticeably affected was PJ Washington, who sarcastically relayed part of the Celtics star's quote as he exited the game.

As mentioned earlier, comments made by NBA stars can now be instantly sent and saved worldwide. With someone always listening, perhaps next time Tatum will think twice before insulting his future opposition.
