Clippers Offer For Harden Revealed

Details have emerged for an ongoing trade proposal sent from the Los Angeles Clippers in an attempt to acquire All-Star James Harden. Harden has been involved in trade discussions all summer following his public request to leave the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Clippers have offered the Sixers a 1st round pick, a draft-pick swap, and expiring contracts for James Harden, per @PompeyOnSixers.

Philadelphia's Interest

Philadelphia is unlikely to be interested in this offer, as Harden is coming off an All-Star-level season, and with reigning MVP Joel Embiid in his prime, they want to make sure that whatever they get in return for Harden helps them compete immediately.


The Clippers' offer is more suitable for a rebuilding franchise, as it includes draft pick assets and players on expiring deals, which would free up cap space for a rebuilding team looking to sign more expensive free agents.

Clippers Trade Assets

Unfortunately for the Clippers, they cannot spare any assets to help Philadelphia compete. The superstar tandem of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George is reportedly the healthiest they've been as Clippers, and they want to push towards an NBA Championship themselves this season, hence the desire to sign Harden.

This is not to say that a deal may not eventually go through, as there is potential for other rebuilding teams to come in and help the trade along by sending veteran players to Philadelphia and claiming the Clippers' draft picks and swaps. But as of right now, no reports suggest that the 76ers are interested in this trade at all.
